Back to fishes

Rosy barb is a really beautiful and easy to breed fish. Young barbs grow fast, with equal rate so we don't need to worry about sorting, and they eat every food. Before spawn you need to separate parents by sex and feed them with best food you can get. As soon as females become "round", wait till evening and put them in the spawning tank with clean water. Remember, they need more females than males to spawn properly. Fishes will be trying to eat their eggs, so use some kind of protection, like bars 7 cm above ground. Put alot of plants in tank, and next day morning stimulate them with the ray of light. They should spawn like crazy. Put them back to main the tank and cover spawning one in darkness. Usually it's suggested to use tanks at least 50 cm long, but I used shorter.

There is also a trick - use some kind of "mop", fishes will spawn above it, then you can take it from the spawning tank and put in another one, smaller.

Breeding fry is more than easy. Little ones have unusually big mouths, so they will eat almost everything we use to feed them. You can use commercial food for the first week, then use "micro". It;s possible to start with artemia - they usually are able to eat it just after beginning of their activity (but better use smaller species of artemia at first). They are very lively and eat alot - refresh their water regularry, use the good filter and put alot of plants in their tank. They need alot of plants in food too - the commercial flakes should be good enough.

Proper spawn, with fungicides, good oxygene status and in the big spawning tank can result in thousands of fries - yet such breeding is risky. Alot of eggs in the single tank might result in massive dieing when the oxygene status drop rapidly, or some bacteria start to grow. After 2-3 months little barbs have 2-3 cm, with living food even faster.
