Brown hoplo catfish is a beautiful, not so hard to breed animal. The only problem is the spawning tank big enough for catfish. Put a couple in such a tank (feed them really good few weeks before spawn), the tank should be at least one meter long. Water level - 20 cm is enough, a lil higher if fishes are big. Alot of plants, no ground. Put something green around 20x20 cm at surface - might be plant, might be a piece of plastic. Temperature - 26 'C, very clean water. If fishes do not want to spawn, you can use trick with imitation of wet season - same as for Bristlenose Catfish Soon the male should build a beautiful bubble nest under one of the leaves at the surface (or under the plastic imitation). After astonishing ritual fishes will spawn. It's finished when male start to attack fish net. Cath female, and remember to do not stress male, or he might destroy the nest and eat eggs. Fry eat everything - of course they grow faster with the living food, but without bigger troubles you can use commercial flakes. From single spawn you can expect 500 up to 1000 little catfishes. |
